Happy 21st, Nina!

August 16, 2010

Two weekends ago, me and the boy took a trip up to Fairfax, VA to celebrate my sister’s 21st.  If you know my sister at all, you know that we are nothing alike.  Okay, that’s a bit much – like all siblings, we have similarities, but with our five year gap in-between us, it’s hard not to be different!  She’s pretty low key and I enjoy celebrating things on a bigger scale.

(Ooh, and I want to point out that I didn’t take all of these pictures.  The boy took some too.  Yes, he has finally taken an interest in one of my hobbies!  It’s a new hobby so we’re learning together.  Could I be anymore sappy?  You betcha.)

After arriving shortly in Northern VA, we spend most of our first day there in Georgetown.  If I had to live in DC, I would live there.  Pricey, sure, but I would make it work!  Anyway, it was lunch time and I was craving sushi.  We Yelped the closest sushi joint and Chopsticks was the winner.  Chris ordered their bento box lunch special and I ordered gyoza + Dynamite roll.  Yeah, why would you melt mozzarella cheese on a sushi roll?  Fail.  I still ate it all though.

After a bit of window shopping, we finally made it to 33rd st.  Ladies and gents, we stood in line for over an hour for Georgetown Cupcake‘s delicious cupcakes.  I know there are a lot, A LOT of people who do not agree with me, but I still love them even though they suck on TV.  I still encourage you watch it.  :)

Had I known people who preorder can skip the line altogether, I would have done that!  Geez.

Later that night, we walked around my sister’s town center and enjoyed the cool evening weather.  We also ate some gelato that we thought was overpriced.  They charge by weight, but they are the ones that scoop it into the bowl.  And the girl working that night?  Yeesh.  Someone buy her a happy meal.  Other than that, twas a good first night in Fairfax.

Yeah, we don’t look like pedophiles at all.  (Oh man, I can imagine the spam I’m going to get!  Ha!)

The next day (her actual birthday), my sister had to still go into work – she’s a hairstylist for the rich and balding.  So, we decided to go into the city and take pictures around town.  But first, a necessary stop at Bon Chon.  A lot of my friends have been raving about it, so when I found out there was one in NoVA, I haaaad to go.

Big ass basket of fries.

Soy garlic wings because I’m a wuss.  But these were heavenly. AND BIG! What a deal. Haha!

Finally started walking around DC..

Why yes this is my normal look.  And yes, this photo is edited.  A lot.

Hot as a mofo, so we found this froyo joint.  16 flavors to choose from?  Holla!

So this is where it gets, embarrassing?  No, my sister is just way more pickier than I am – so we end up at Applebee’s.  It’s her favorite place to go.  Haha. What did I order?  Asiago Peppercorn Steak (only 550 calories!  go me!) and their Maple Butter Blondie for another 550 calories.  Haha!  Afterward, we went bowling in Burke.  Man, it’s so weird now that Virginia has banned smoking.  It’s weird, but I love it.  I can’t stand it when my clothes smell like cigarettes!

I suck.

Notice there aren’t any pictures of alcohol?  Like I said… she’s not traditional.  BUUT I’m still going to use LMFAO’s Shots for this post!  Enjoy! :)

For our last day/morning there, my sister wanted to go to Reston’s town center.  Chris found a place to eat brunch: Community Canteen!  Sooo cute!  If I lived there, I would eat there everyday.  I loved it.  They were really hospitable too!  Teddi’s food hadn’t come out yet (we were halfway done), so they gave him a free pastry and a $10 giftcard.  How awesome!

Aaand that’s all, folks!
