My 26th: a tea party, fireworks, & family time

July 6, 2010

Me and Janelle have been itching to throw a tea party (she loves tea + I love planning parties) for a while but never had a reason to do it. I wanted to do something low key this year for my birthday – I usually do a big dinner then go dance the night away – so this was perfect!

We invited some of our close friends and asked them to bring a light brunch dish & to wear their favorite tea party dress! Twas a fun Saturday!

I decided to make Banana Streusel Muffins & Janelle made a Summer Fruit Trifle. Mmm.

Banana Streusel Muffins
From allrecipes
Makes 12 regular-sized muffins or 24 cupcake-sized muffins

Print this recipe!

You’ll need:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
¼ cup butter or margarine, melted
2 medium ripe bananas, mashed

Streusel -
¼ cup sugar
3 tbsps all-purpose flour
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsps butter or margarine

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. In a small bowl, beat eggs, sour cream, butter and bananas; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full. For streusel, combine sugar, flour and cinnamon in a small bowl; cut in butter. Sprinkle over muffins. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes.

Yes, we blew bubbles.

Aly stuck in a Katrina sammich!

A blurry picture of the rest of the girls in attendance! Sowwy.

Pretty backdrops, huh?

Ginalyn! I’ve known the gal for over 15 years.

Miss Aly

We had impromptu photoshoots everywhere!

Aly was freaked out by these large flowers…

Haha!

Janelle assigned me a cup.

Awesome book from Aly! :)

The next day, we did a little shopping at the outlets in Williamsburg then prepared for a night of fireworks. Cue music: Drake ft. Alicia Keys – Fireworks. Ha! I haven’t seen fireworks up close in a very long time, so needlessly to say, I was very excited to see them! Though we knew it would be absolute chaos to see them from Mt. Trashmore, we went anyway!

Right before the big show (I guess someone else wanted to be 1st, lol)

My favorite picture of the night… red, white & blue! :)

Yesterday, I went to my godmother’s (where my grandmother resides) house because they were having a spur of the moment gathering. I had pancit, ukoy, fried chicken, turrón, ginataan, and halo-halo to eat. Yeah, not the healthiest…but it was delish! Haha.

Hope you enjoyed pictures from my birthday week! Hehe. And I hope you had a fun holiday weekend! Now back to work!

UGH! Haha.
