After reading this article in The New York Times, I got so inspired I decided I needed to make it. I didn’t use a recipe to go off of – I just winged it. The end result? Imagine traditional tiramisù and strawberry shortcake getting together & having a baby. Yeah, this is their love child. And it is amaaaaaing.
Seriously. It is the ultimate summer dessert.
Summer Tiramisù
Inspired by this article
Serves 12-16 (I used an 8 in. baking dish)
You’ll need:
- a bottle of moscato d’Asti
- 1½ lb mascarpone cheese
- approx 24-30 ladyfingers
- 2 lb fresh strawberries
- ½ cup sugar
Directions:
You can do whatever you’d like with the strawberries, but I chose to slice them for easy layering. In the article, she leaves a couple of whole (but hulled) strawberries alone for garnish. After I slicing, I place them in a large tupperware container and added ¼ cup sugar + 3-4 tbsp of wine to the container. I sealed the container with a lid and shake, shake, shake!
Then, I combined 2 tbsp of wine + ¼ cup sugar + the 1½ lb mascarpone cheese into a medium-sized mixing bowl (you can use a mixer if you want, but I mixed by hand using a whisk).
After prepping the strawberries & the cheese spread, it was time to layer! It was 1:00pm, so I thought it’d be okay if I poured myself a glass of wine (and to dip the ladyfingers into) + got to work. I covered the bottom of the baking dish with soaked lady fingers. Then I covered them with half of the cheese spread and poured half of the strawberries on top of the cheese. I repeated the process, then placed the dish in the fridge for about 6 hours.

This is what a corner of the tiramisù looked like after cutting into it.
Sigh. Used too much wine maybe?!
…nah!

I’m okay with the tiramisù cobbler, what about you? :)
(Okay, okay…I will admit it cut better the next day! Yippy!)
I love that you can make this recipe your own. Next time I’ll try using vanilla ice cream in place of the mascarpone cheese or mix it up by using raspberries or another kind of fruit! The possibilities are endless. Cheers!

that’s gotta taste amazing with all the moscato in it! mmmm
@Katrina – Yeah, it’s really, really good. :) We still have some left!
Tiramisu is my favorite dessert and moscato is my favorite wine. This MUST be a match made in heaven!
@Julia – Moscato is my fave wine too! Mmm.
There is no such thing as too much wine! Except when you are with your wonderful but slightly bossy sister-in-law and she pours the wine for the night which means you will end up in a canoe and possibly trespassing. Actually, there’s nothing wrong with that either.
This is fantastic! I think I might give it a shot with a rose, and my only reasoning is the colour. I find moscato can be a bit yellow and well, a light rose will match the strawberries.
@Ms. Whiteplates – Ah yes, Rose would definitely look good with the moscato…but try it! It’s soo delish. :)
